Appraising high-end, unique property is an important first step in supporting a listing price.

Members of two major organizations include all areas of real estate appraising. And hold various designations related to experience and/or training within each of these organizations.

The Appraisal Institute Appraisers of Real Property

'MAI' or Member, Appraisal Institute
An appraiser with this designation can appraise all types of real estate, including income and comples property.

'SRA' or Senior Residential Appraiser
This designation of appraiser is qualified to appraise single-family properties. Also known as an 'RM' or Residential Member (same designation earned prior to using the 'SRA' designation).

'SREA', a designation used by the Society of Real Estate Appraisers for someone with substantial experience in real state analysis. This designation was given prior to the merge of the American Institute of Real Estate Appriasers and the Society of Real Estate Appraisers in 1991.

American Society of Appraisers
Appraisers of ALL types of property, personal and real.
Designations are:

Accredited Member, or 'AM' - the first level of accreditation.
Accredited Senior Appraiser, or 'ASA' - an 'AM' with 5 years of experience, and must be recertified every five years.

National Society of Real Estate Appraisers
Founded in California in 1956, and an affiliate of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers.

Master Real Estate Appraiser, or 'MREA'
Certified Real Estate Appraiser, or "CRA'
Residential Appraiser, or 'RA'

National Association of Fee Appraisers
Fee Appraisers of real estate. Local chapters in the U.S.
Designations include:
